I’m sitting with the best poodle, Otto. He’s decided he now wants the vantage point sitting on my lap offers. He’s unapologetic about his request to be on my lap. Now that I think about it, he doesn’t quite ask to be on my lap.

He half demands to be on my lap and half warns he’s about to jump onto my lap. This is a norm in his everyday. During the day when I’m away Ingrid is on shift. After his exuberant greeting when I get home, he demands his rightful spot.

He’ll get his chosen toy of the day and submit his demand—warning. I realise that this ritual is something that not only helps me switch contexts, but it also grounds me.

Ingrid next to me on the couch and Otto on my lap—home. It brings me home.

I never thought a pup could add this much oxygen to our lives. To my life.

Life. How elusive we can make it. There were, there are days we take life to be everything-just-right.

Today, in this moment
