Act well your part, there all the honor lies.’ He who does something at the head of one Regiment, will eclipse him who does nothing at the head of a hundred ~ Abraham Lincoln
Lincoln said these words addressing General who felt he dishonored because he did not have many regiments reporting to him, only one.
Prestige and notoriety as a basis for action will guarantee inaction.
Leaders stand the danger of compromising the cause if they are only prepared to act with greater responsibility on them. The irony is, you cannot get greater responsibility if you never act where you with what you have.
never allow yourself to get in the way of the cause
Heretic leaders do not strive for honor as a primary goal. They are not slaves of comparison.
Comparing how much acknowledgement others are receiving is not how you get things done.
Bringing about change will not and cannot happen when it is driven by the volume of applause.
The honor in leadership is focusing on what you are supposed to do. Like Lincoln said, acting with little in obscurity is more honorable than doing nothing with much with great publicity.
Dear heretic leader, do the work and the platform will take care of itself. It is your hustle on your work and cause that will change the world and put you before kings.
Don’t wait for the world’s attention and applause. That is too much power to place in your environment. Remember, you are supposed to be happening to the environment not it to you.
Determine the actions necessary for your cause and be given completely to them. Being acknowledged and greater responsibility is a by-product of your focus on your work and cause.
Don’t wait for your whole enterprise to give you a “go ahead” for change you know it needs in order to survive, thrive and be effective going into the future.
Don’t fight obscurity. Don’t use having little responsibility or resources as an excuse for not acting. Act. There is always something you can always do.
Playing your part well in obscurity now will mean even more when you have the attention of the world. Those who did not see you pay your dues will want to take a look at your track record. This includes a very close look of what you’ve done in your obscure days.
The world is not only changed by a select few but masses acting in obscurity. It is changed by many individuals acting in obscurity with what they have where they are.
Act well your part, there all the honor lies.’ He who does something at the head of one Regiment, will eclipse him who does nothing at the head of a hundred ~ Abraham Lincoln
Act well your part. Be bold.
